Alpaca my tent back home!

9 August 2017

For the third year in a row, Pukkelpop and University Colleges Leuven-Limburg join forces to make festival goers think about the environment. This time they developed a playful green awareness campaign: Alpaca my tent back home.

As you all know, Alpaca refers to a mountain lama; but it's also an English wordplay on I'll pack my. Pukkelpop now created its own Alpaca meme, inspired by countless examples on the global web.

Chokri Mahassine, festival organizer: "We have to strike a difficult balance here. Of course we don't like wagging a finger at people, but we literally cannot overlook the (rubbish) problem any longer. We've tried to raise awareness among festival goers for many years. Take your stuff home! Clean up your litter! Please leave the campsite just as you found it! This message has been repeated on signs and banners all over our campgrounds. Nevertheless, our 'Clean Up Your Act' concept needed a new push. That's why we're launching this low-threshold initiative, with humour and cool rewards."

Marc Vandewalle, General Director of UCLL: "Setting up a sensitization campaign is always a bit hit-and-miss, but all students and teachers who got involved are super enthusiastic. During the festival, our marketing students will draw attention with all sorts of playful actions. In addition to this campaign, we will also focus on green energy and new experiments. So we're putting the bar high this year. Who knows, maybe UCLL and Pukkelpop will win another prize at the European Festival Awards."

It's simple enough to participate. Festival visitors at Camping Chill are asked to take home their tent on Sunday morning, take a photo in front of the special photo wall and share it on Instagram with the hashtag #AlpacaMyTent. The best entries can win a stack of Pukkelpop 2018 combi tickets for five friends.
