PUKKELPOP, CO2 NEUTRAL

Our ultimate goal?

Organising a festival that generates a lower footprint than if we were to stay at home.

Okay, but what can I do?

LEAVE YOUR CAR AT HOME
64% of our CO2 footprint can be attributed to transport to and from the festival.

  • Make use of the free public transport options. Festival tickets include free bus and/or train (e-train ticket required).
  • Kiewit train station is situated just 500m from the festival grounds.
  • Additional night buses are also being scheduled.
  • Come by bicycle and make use of our free and guarded bicycle parking.
  • Carpooling is cool: share a car with your friends.
  • Stay at camping Chill or camping Relax. The price of your festival ticket includes free camping.

RECYCLE (MORE)
The stuff campers leave behind accounts for 42% of our waste.

  • Thanks for leaving your camping spot in the condition in which you found it. Take your tent and waste home or use the waste islands. Used tens can also be handed in at the Recycling Shop Stand.
  • The Recycle Points at the campsites are also open on Sunday. Last year over 500,000 cups and bottles were handed in at the Recycle Points.
  • One common goal: increase last year’s recycling percentage of 23% to 50% by 2018.
  • Recycling is (even more) profitable thanks to your Green-ID, a card with a unique barcode that you can store in your smartphone or put in your wallet. You can use the card to activate Food & Drink tickets at the various Recycle Points in the festival arena and at the campsites.

GREEN ID: ACTIVATE, REGISTER & BENEFIT

How?

  • Come by bicycle
  • Recycling at the campsite: refuse bag = 1 credit, waste bag for plastic bottles, metal & drinks packagings (PMD) = 2 credits
  • Recycling in the festival arena: 20 cups/bottles = 1 credit

What?

  • 1 credit = 1 food & drink ticket
  • Every time you register you stand a chance to win a backstage tour, an exclusive PKP saddlebag, a merchandise voucher and many more.

TRY SOMETHING VEGGIE FOR A CHANGE
30% of the earth’s surface is used to raise animals for food.

  • Convince yourself and check the scrumptious vegetarian options served up by Food Wood. There’s something for everyone.

SAY “THANK YOU ECO TEAM”!
Out on patrol around the clock for a waste-free world.

  • There’s Superman, The Invisible Woman, Batman, Mega Mindy and the 300 volunteers of our eco team. Feel free to lend them a hand, both literally and figuratively.

Sure, but what about your contribution?

BEHIND THE SCENES
Naturally we do our part behind the scenes to make Pukkelpop as green and sustainable as possible.

  • Our mains power is 100% sustainable.
  • Old banners and canvases are made into saddlebags or hammocks.
  • We no longer print posters or flyers.
  • Frying oil is processed into e.g. biodiesel.
  • Every year an energy plan is drawn up to optimise the use of generators and cut energy consumption.
  • We attach a great deal of importance to the use of energy-efficient equipment (e.g. LED lighting).
  • No disposable cups are used in the backstage area.
  • The artist units are decorated with material from the Recycling Shop.
  • Our campsites work closely with the Recycling Shop and the Food Bank.
  • Our on-site container park can process 10 different waste fractions.
  • A bunch of wonderful people invest a lot of time and effort into making this festival as sustainable an enterprise as possible. Thank you so much city of Hasselt, RC Hades eco teams, conservation organisation Natuurpunt, GoodPlanet, Ecofest, the Flemish Environmental Society (VMM), university Hogeschool UCLL, Recycling Shop and Food Bank.
