In 1996, James Mercer pops open a can of yummy guitar pop. With The Shins, he paves the way for Death Cab for Cutie and other Iron & Wines. But after ten successful years, the pressure gets too much. Mercer dismisses the band and puts The Shins on hold. Comeback records 'Port of Morrow' (2012) and 'Heartworms' (2016) sound fresh from the market and better than ever.
